MY MOTORCYCLE EXPERIENCE STARTED VERY EARLY AT AGE 7, (As I remember) My Dad's  friend "Harry Savage" (his real name) GAVE ME A RIDE AROUND THE BLOCK ON HIS 500 INDIAN. I REMEMBER FEELING LIKE WE WERE GOING TO FALL INTO EVERY CORNER, THEN HE WOULD THROTTLE OUT AND IT FELT LIKE THIS INVISIBLE FORCE WAS PUSHING US BACK UP. WOW, WHAT A RUSH...I'LL NEVER FORGET THAT SENSATION...I WAS HOOKED. THEN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD SCHWINN BIKE DEALER TOOK ON THE HONDA MOTORCYCLE FRANCHISE IN 1964.
MY FATHER WAS INTERESTED IN MOTORCYCLES, AND THAT SAME YEAR HE TRADED CAMPING EQUIPMENT TO A FRIEND'S BROTHER FOR A 1958 150 BSA BANTAM MAJOR.
I WOULD VISIT THE HONDA SHOP ALMOST EVERY DAY AFTER SCHOOL, AND CLAIMED MY STAKE ON A BRAND NEW 1964 HONDA 305 DREAM. COLOR OF CHOICE...BLUE WITH A RED SEAT. LIKE A MOMENT FROZEN IN TIME, I CAN STILL REMEMBER PROCLAIMING TO MY BEST FRIEND "WHEN I GET OLDER, I WILL OWN ONE JUST LIKE THIS AND TOUR THE U.S."
AS GOOD FORTUNE WOULD HAVE IT, WE EVENTUALLY MOVED TO A RURAL SETTING, JUST ABOUT 2500 FEET FROM A YAMAHA BSA DEALER JUST A FEW YEARS LATER.
MY DAD TRADED UP TO A 305 SUPERHAWK IN EARLY '66 AND BY THIS TIME WAS MOVING ON TO A CANDY APPLE CB450 K1. I WAS NOW SPENDING ALL MY TIME AT THE LOCAL MOTORCYCLE SHOP WHO BASICALLY ADAPTED ME AS FAMILY.
I SPENT A FEW YEARS HANGING AROUND, LEARNING ABOUT THE CRAFT FROM THE HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL RACING TEAM, AND HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO WRENCH FOR THE NEW OWNERS OF THE LOCAL HONDA FRANCHISE.
IN THE AUTUMN OF 1970 THEY SENT ME TO RACINE WISCONSIN TO THE MIDWEST AMERICAN HONDA TRAINING CENTER, WHERE I WAS INSTRUCTED FOR A TWO WEEK COURSE, BY NONEOTHER THAN BOB JAMESON, WHO ALONG WITH BOB HANSEN, NEARLY SINGLEHANDEDLY DEVELOPED THE CB 750 AND PREPPED THE RACE BIKE FOR THE WIN AT DAYTONA EARLIER THAT YEAR.
I WAS AT THE TOP OF MY GAME, AND I BARELY TURNED 17!
FOR MANY YEARS AFTERWARD, I PLIED MY TRADE UNTIL COLLEGE AND A CHANGE OF CAREER.
I HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN THOSE SIGNIFICANT TIMES IN MOTORCYCLING HISTORY.
I NOW TOUR ON BIG BIKES, AND HAVE A STABLE FULL OF WEEKENDERS THAT I BUILD TO SUIT RETRO SPORT RIDING, OR IF I CAN RESCUE AN ORIGINAL "BARN FIND" I'LL TRY TO MAINTAIN IT'S ORIGINALITY IF I CAN. I AM HAVING A GREAT TIME MEETING OTHERS LIKE MYSELF, WHO ARE HELPING ME EXPAND MY BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF OTHER MARQUES OF MOTORCYLCLING CLASSICS. SO MANY BIKES...SO LITTLE TIME...TALK ABOUT PASSION...DAVE
Willie G. along with son, Bill Davidson presenting me with Ride in Show Trophy for the 2005 Springer I diguised as a '48 Panhead. Willie just loved it, and rewarded me with the "GOODS"
